Frankly, I love when characters change, especially when they change for the better, and Bergren has done it here, and done it well. (That’s another reason I love these books so much: Christian fiction!!) Marcello has changed a little bit, but it may be one of those occasions in which you just come to know more about the character so it appears that they have changed when they really haven’t, you just see some qualities that were there all along but just became apparent. She has realized some things about life, and has turned to God to guide her in her new world. Gabi has changed a lot, and it is for the better. Rodolfo made some choices that I personally think he shouldn’t have based on his position, but you can’t blame him. *****END SPOILER***** I really like him, but I like Marcello better. *****SPOILER***** Later in the series, he sort of kind of makes it a little bit of a love triangle, adding some drama for Marcello and Gabi. Rodolfo is dark and mysterious, and Gabi cannot figure him out. Not that Marcello isn’t tall and handsome, it just sounds cool. (Isn’t his name awesome? I like that name, Rodolfo.) He’s the exact opposite of Marcello: Tall, Dark, and Handsome. Maybe some minor ones, but only one big one: Lord Rodolfo Greco. The characters are mostly the same, with some new additions.

Having said that, the author gives glimpses of more interesting writing: (Risking a mild spoiler, I’ll just say it had to do with a medical device.) There was one action at the end, in particular, I found totally unlikely given the supposed nature of the character. The plot was reasonable, with a number of surprises, but too often the characters seemed to lack emotional depth. While the story kept me engaged, I found the writing in parts too reliant on dialogue I would’ve liked to experience more of the physicality of the Black Country, through more visual descriptions and a greater appeal to the senses. So does the author in weaving a tale with multiple layers of childhood trauma, exploitation, self-delusion and greed. Set with the task of solving a number of murders, Stone does a pretty good job. I can see her making a good series character. She’s tenacious and, although she does her best to hide her emotions, she has a soft streak. Stone has a complex history she’s short on people skills and she has an obsessive-compulsive streak that makes her a pain to work with, but gives her an advantage as a detective. (I found a video of an elderly couple talking and it was like listening to a foreign language.)Īnother aspect I enjoyed was the narrator, D I Kim Stone. It’s not an area I’m familiar with, and the author’s use of dialect had me searching to hear examples of it on Youtube. One was its setting in the Black Country in the West Midlands in England. There were a few things I liked about Angela Marsons’ thriller, Silent Scream. The showrunners, Patrick McKay and JD Payne, are agonizingly aware of the pressure. Amazon needs to definitively make the case that it can produce giant prestige shows, and with this series, it’s courting the additional danger of amending and elaborating on the canon of a beloved storyteller. Because of Bezos’s immense wealth, The Rings of Power is actually less of a financial risk than it is a reputational one. “To now hear Bruce tell his own intimate story with the same charisma and force that he brings to his performances is simply magic.” “As a lifelong Bruce Springsteen fan, I’ve spent countless hours listening to him tell stories of the most unforgettable characters in rock and roll,” said Chris Lynch, President & Publisher, Simon & Schuster Audio. Excerpts from the original studio recordings of Living Proof, Long Time Comin’ and Born to Run are also featured in the audiobook. On the movies side, it’s always a wonderful surprise when Hollywood tips its cap respectfully to the genre, and the Sandra Bullock-Channing Tatum adventure-comedy romp The Lost City delivered on both the laughs and genuine acknowledgment that romance novels a) are not only worthy of praise but also b) bring happiness to lots of readers everywhere.Ĭoincidentally, that’s what each of the books on this month’s list do very well themselves. (Enemies to lovers? Slow burn? Sign me all the way up.) On the small-screen side of things, not only did we get the return of the rom-com series that was practically tailor-made for millennials, Starstruck by and starring the hilarious comedian Rose Matafeo who is definitely One of Us), but this month also saw the premiere of Season 2 of Bridgerton, which follows a different lead pairing in Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma and tackles a variety of new tropes along the way. From a romance lover’s perspective, March has actually been a fairly good month for us. Her uncle head hunting as a US Marshall seems weird. She has some trials at school about this, but, in my experience, this is not how high school works. She’s immediately accepted into the “in” crowd. She’s 18 and doesn’t realize when a guy goes down on her he’s gonna get horny? Um, no. Read the review and let me know in the comments. I, obviously, wouldn’t bring this up without my own suggestion: MANagerie. Before we dive into it, can we just talk about the “reverse harem” name? Why are women forced to just reverse the male word for multiple lovers? I feel like we should make our own word. I went back, checked, and confirmed that this is a reverse harem love story. I got a little bit into it and realized that there might be multiple love interests. I’ll be honest, the cover drew me in on this book. Moreover, she has represented her country at U16, U19, U21, and the senior level. Talking about her international career, she has represented her country at various age levels.
